Warriors Select Curry 7th Overall

This off-season hasn’t been very eventful for the Warriors, but their biggest moment happened when they selected guard Stephen Curry 7th overall. In the system that is very shooter friendly, Curry has a big chance to shine. It was almost inevitable that the Knicks would select the guard at the 8th position, but when the Warriors picked Curry just one spot ahead of, the boos in Madison Square Garden probably could have been heard all the way out in California. One of Curry’s most overlooked aspects is his ability to defend. Because of the track-record of elite shooters in college is that they cannot defend, Curry gets a bad wrap based off of association with the likes of Adam Morrison and J.J. Redick. But he has the footspeed and athleticism to keep up with plenty of point guards in the league. If he wants to be able to defend shooting guards, he’ll have to bulk up, because although he isn’t as weak as he looks, his frame doesn’t look all that sturdy.

Even with the selection of Curry, this team is still a long ways away from being a competitive ball club and until they start putting forth an effort on the defensive end of the floor, they’ll be bottom dwellers in the Pacific Division for a long time. They have the offensive fire power to score on any team in the league at will, but when you give up just as many points as you score and more, you explosive offense kind of gets overlooked.
